Chocolate Candy Makes A Wonderful Gift.

Chocolate candy is definitely the best present to give someone for their birthday or any other day that is classed as special such as, Valentine's day or Mother's day, Chanukah, and Halloween. Lets not forget that chocolate would also make a fantastic gift at Christmas too. The amazing thing with this type of candy is it seems that presentation is just as important as the product itself.

Chocolate candy looks fabulous in good packaging:

Many individuals who eat chocolate usually like many different sorts, from the cheapest to the more expensive gourmet ones. This is cool when it comes to purchasing a chocolate gift for them, because as long as the packaging looks high-quality you can go for a less costly brand. You will not have to spend all your money on the gourmet ones, that is unless you want to. Its amazing to find that an Hershey's Kiss will take some beating for both taste and price.

Chocolate candy is actually quite inexpensive, therefore you could be a little extravagant and a tad crazy about how you present the candy. An entertaining idea would be to have some sort of topic like getting some chocolate balls and packaging them to look like basketballs and baseballs is a out of this world way to please the sporting individual in your life. Creating a plastic baseball helmet or football helmet and stuffing them with sports themed chocolate is a marvelous scheme for a gift.

Another creative gift would be to buy chocolate candy in the shape of little dogs, wrap them, and put them in a feeding bowl and present them to that dog lover in your life. You could also make this gift idea work with the cat lover as well, all you would do is buy some fish shaped chocolates and repeat the process of wrapping them and placing them in a fish or feeding bowl. So allow your imagination to run riot, because you know you want to.

Chocolate fruit:

Another creative and possibly crazy idea that would definitely fit into a theme, would be to find some fruit covered chocolates, like chocolate covered fruit peels and marzipan fruit and create a fruit chocolate fruit salad. Chocolates that are orange tasting are occasionally sold in slices, like actual oranges, so making sure your fruit salad looks like it was made of genuine fruit, and not chocolate candy is where your imagination and inspiration can have a blast.

Use your imagination when choosing your chocolate candy gift basket:

Laughing at funny and creative gift baskets is part of the pleasure your friend or loved one gets when receiving a gift of chocolate candy. You could take chocolates left over from Christmas and re-use them for another occasion. For instance, chocolate lips and hearts normally reserved for Valentine's Day would work in a romance themed basket at any time of the year.

Now all you need to do is have fun, and have the individual your giving the gift to in mind when thinking of a topic for your chocolate candy gift basket.

Creating Yummy Gourmet Chocolates.

A while ago I decided to a be chef and make some gourmet food for a party, I actually ended up making truffles, and boy, were they a big hit with all my friends, who all made the assumption they were gourmet chocolates purchased from a trendy candy or gourmet food shop. Be warned! making your own gourmet chocolate is quite difficult, and it takes time and patience, however, on the positive side it gives you the option to choose from recipes that may not be so easy to get in the local candy store.

The key to making amazing gourmet chocolate:

Choosing and buying the ingredients of your gourmet chocolate is part of the fun. To start with I melted excellent quality dark chocolate over a double boiler. I then rolled some minute balls from marzipan and covered them in yummy chocolate. To finish I rolled the chocolate covered marzipan in ground almonds, I also rolled chocolate peanut butter in additional chocolate and then gave them all a toping of ground peanuts.

Making chocolates opens up your creative juices, and so when making your own gourmet chocolates, you can create many different variations like, chocolate covered candied ginger, chocolate covered citrus peels; even chocolate covered chili peppers, wow.

Sharpen your sculpting talents when making gourmet chocolate:

A popular TV chef had a recipe for a honey chocolate cake, which inspired me to make a honey marzipan truffle.

  • Start by getting the chocolate ingredients.
  • Then melt the chocolate over the double boiler.
  • Add a little honey, this will create a nice glaze.
  • Now get the marzipan and with a paring knife carve some simple shapes like flowers, bunnies or hearts.
  • Then dip the shaped marzipan carefully into the chocolate and let the chocolate set on the marzipan.
  • Then sprinkle them with confectioner's sugar.
  • The glaze will be a little sticky, so the sugar will stick.

This will make a great gift for all occasions, and is an especially good idea for gourmet chocolates, because you can make the marzipan into any shape to suit the occasion, and finish off by dusting them with the confectioner's sugar.

A Fantastic gift for someone you care about:

It's difficult to find someone who doesn't like chocolate, so as gifts they are an excellent choice to show someone you care. By making chocolate yourself, you can take your time, and make them look great for that special person in your life. Food and wine followed by some gourmet chocolates will definitely score you some brownie points.

Gourmet chocolates are normally made by master chocolate makers, there's no pressure here, but be sure you don't make something thats looks terrible and boring, because this will defeat the object of making them yourself. If the chocolates you create are lumpy, uneven or mis-shaped people will not think much of them. You need to be sure the quality is fantastic when offering your friends some of your gourmet chocolate.

The Fine Culinar Experience: Wusthof Knives

Wusthof produces a number of brands of knives. Some of the strongest of these knives can be found in the Culinar set. Wusthof Culinar knife sets feature excellent quality, strong knives and impressive stainless steel designs. These are pretty knives that are strong and durable, also.

One of the reasons that these knives are strong knives is because of the materials that Wusthof turns to when producing these knives. Each knife is forged from just one blank of steel. Each steel material in the piece provides a high carbon build for increased durability. Another advantage of this standard is that each blade formed is razor-sharp. In fact, every edge on every knife is created by hand twice for ultimate workmanship and quality.

The handles attached to these knives are amazing excellent quality. Each handle is created with pure stainless steel that is firmly affixed to the blade. This is a material that is not only durable, but is very easy on the cook’s hands. In fact, these knives are very resistant to slippage. The handles are also gently curved so that it will be easier to direct them with just about any type of food that has to be sliced.

A lot of sets are available in this line of well-made knives. There are four- and six-piece sets of steak knives. Every knife in these sets is correctly sloped at the end. There are even Wusthof Knife Block Sets that provide two steak knives and two steak forks that are also created from stainless steel.

Unique sets in the Culinar line can be the best choice for a variety of cooks. A starter set includes a paring knife, a sandwich knife, and an eight-inch cook's knife. Another set is for carving. This set offers an eight-inch carving knife along with a six-inch straight meat fork.

Wusthof Knife Block Sets may be found in this line, as well. Each block is created with beech wood and includes a steel upright rail. An all-steel version of a block is on the market, as well. Each block includes protection of the blades, as well, so that they will not be dulled in storage. These blocks are not only space-savers for storage, but they are also attractive for practically any type of kitchen counter.

Every block set has a diamond knife sharpener. This is a valuable kind of sharpener because it is made with diamond, a harder surface that allows for sharpening of blades to be more effective.

Wusthof Culinar knife sets offer a few of the toughest knives available from Wusthof. These knives are ones that are built to last, with stainless steel blades; they also feature elegant ends with stainless steel decorations. These are easily managed knives and include many different styles.

In addition to cutting up your vegetables, you can employ Cuisinart 11-cup food processors to grate cheese.  You will lower your grocery bill on this as the grated cheese that you buy in supermarkets costs more money than “chunk cheese” and is filled with preservatives. If you buy your own cheese, you can grate the cheese with your the Cuisinart food processor.

You do not have to stand next to it and hold the hand mixer the whole time that you are making the cake.  Because the Cuisinart is superior to other mixers that often do not beat the batter smooth, it will blend you a smooth batter quickly and efficiently.  There are several different speeds offered with the different types of the Cusinart food processor.  You will be able to select one that is perfect for the recipe you are making.

There are several distincive capacities and models to choose from when you get the Cuisinart 7-cup food processor.  This includes the larger 14 cup models or even the more industrial models.  You could also buy a small capacity food processor for single servings. Either way, the Cuisinart food processor will make your life less complicated.  This food processor will save you money, enable you to prepare healthier dishes and, when you are done saving money and eating right, the parts come apart easily for sanitizing in the dishwasher.  You will not have a big mess in your kitchen.  If you want to prepare more nourishing meals in minutes, check out what Cuisinart will offer and think about purchasing the Cuisinart food processor.

Why not buy organic food to achieve better health

There has been much talked about the benefits of organic food both for your health and the environment.

Many people are opting to change their food preferences in favour of organic food. Surveys carried out by stores and through their own sales data, confirm that organically grown foods have been steadily increasing in popularity over the past few years as more and more people are choosing to live a leaner and healthier lifestyle having discovered the advantages of organic food being a central part.

In addition, this trend has enabled organic farmers to do their bit in preserving the habitats of wildlife through not using aggressive pesticides or fertilizers. Insects and small animals that we have not seen since our childhood are starting to re-appear in the countryside once more.

The problem with conventionally grown foods as opposed to organic food is that pesticides are used and in some people's opinion, far too much, in order both to protect the crop and to reap a larger harvest than before, due to lower numbers of plants lost to disease. This gives the farmers more income of course and helps to satisfy an ever growing demand.

It is understandable that the temptation is to do more and more of the same in order to increase profits both for the farmer and the company he is supplying, after all this is always how business is done, find what works and do more of it.

Of course there are a couple of people who lose out on this deal, the person eating the food and the surrounding wildlife to the farm where the produce is grown.

The end consumer loses out through having to consume pesticides along with produce that does not seem to have as many nutrients or frankly as much taste as they used to have.

I challenge you to compare the taste you get from organic sweet corn and conventionally grown sweet corn and see which one you think tastes better. Somehow food, especially fresh produce, does not seem to taste as good as it used to and pesticides and intensive farming procedures may well be the cause for this.

Other reasons for buying organic food

Consuming organic food helps us to reduce the dependence on non-renewable resources and is better for the environment in the long run.

One benefit that the organic food industry likes to promote is the creation of healthy farmland and will offer support to small family owned farms that adopt organic methods.

Growing plants organically means that pesticides and other nasties are kept out of the water sytem.

Organically grown food offers a good option for feeding your children, why would you want to give your child pesticides anyway?

So the next time that you are out shopping for groceries, give organic food a try. Think about how it can benefit not only your health but also that of your family. Many people are now buying organic and reaping the benefits daily.

Bamboo Plants

Bamboo plants are among the world’s most useful and versatile plants. Unlike trees, bamboo grows at an astonishing rate of up to 2 inches per hour. This makes it the world’s fastest growing plant.

Even though their height can be enormous, they are not part of the tree family species. They fall into the grass category. Currently, there are over a thousand species and nearly a hundred different grass subgenera. As different species can be used for different things, this variety helps to ensure the lasting survival of a bamboo plant.

This fast growing rate makes bamboo plants invaluable in eastern regions such as India, China and Japan. Bamboo plants are cultivated as a resource of food, wood and even fuel, all of these combined help to increase it’s resourcefulness to the needs of societies abroad. Bamboo, when properly treated, can be extremely durable and long lasting, it provides an easy solution to many problems.

One of the most common uses of bamboo plants, is it’s cultivation as a wood product. Because of it’s accelerated growth rate and durable qualities, bamboo is often used as a wood based product for both the interior and exterior of many homes, this offers endless possibilities for architects and interior designers. Other uses of bamboo wood include tools such as durable cutting boards, chop sticks, tables and other pieces of furniture as well as, kitchen or household accessories.

They are several species in the bamboo family that provide us with a food source. However, not all types of bamboo shoots should be eaten. The giant bamboo, as an example, contains cyanide within the shoots. Cyanide can be lethal to humans.

In the animal kingdom, several survive with the help of bamboo plants. The giant panda has a strict diet consisting only of bamboo leaves and stalks.

Bamboo is one of the most valuable resources we have today, however, there have been some challenges to cultivating it. The bamboo plant, for reasons yet proven by science, tend to have mass flowering and fruiting seasons. This is most notable in the Bay of Bengal, where the bamboo plants bloom once every 30 to 35 years. This mass blooming and fruiting cases severe consequences to human populations nearby. As the fruit falls to the ground, rats swarm. In many cases these rats are known to carry diseases that are very harmful to humans. Famine often will follow this type of disease in these areas and once it begins to spread, many human deaths can occur. With the increased technology of today’s society, solutions to the infestation and disease problems are being addressed, in a manner that will preserve the bamboo plant during its fruiting season.

Because of its versatility, bamboo is grown and harvested in many different regions throughout the world. Bamboo is most commonly found in East Asia, although they can thrive in sub-Saharan Africa, North and South America. Many people only think of Bamboo in it’s relation to the panda bears, however, bamboo also offers many other valuable resources for human consumers, ranging from top quality building materials to a unique food source.

Soda Club (aka Sodastream) Fighting to Defend Market Share

In 2006, Sodastream (Soda Club) tried to stop a competing enterprise from refilling “their” bottles of carbon dioxide (CO2), by claiming that the bottles were their property and did not belong to the customer (per contracts that all customers had to agree to).

This effort failed in Germany, and now the same could happen in other markets as well.

This market niche does need competition, both for environmental reasons (bottles should be refilled in the store, an operation that takes a mere 20 seconds); and for financial reasons (price could easily be halved). More info about refilling - and home refilling - of carbon dioxide bottles for home sodamakers here.

Consider that home-made sparkling water already costs a fraction of store-purchased carbonated beverages; however, things could be a lot better.

Here are the facts from bundeskartellamt in Germany:

http://www.bundeskartellamt.de/wEnglisch/News/Archiv/ArchivNews2006/2006_04_13.php

April 13, 2006

Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court confirms immediate enforceability in the Soda-Club case

Soda-Club GmbH, Wiesbaden (“Soda-Club“) may not use its dominant position abusively. Soda-Club had prevented competing suppliers from refilling CO2 cartridges for water carbonating machines by claiming its ownership of the cartridges.

In February 2006 the Bundeskartellamt prohibited this conduct. Soda Club opposed the Bundeskartellamt’s immediately enforceable decision by applying to the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court for interim measures. In provisional proceedings the court has now confirmed the Bundeskartellamt’s decision in all material respects. Soda-Club is dominant in the market for refilling CO2 cartridges. Hindering competitors from refilling CO2 cartridges represents an abuse of this dominant position. By this conduct Soda-Club prevents consumers from taking advantage of alternative refilling possibilities. Only the obligation to point out on labels on the company’s own cartridges that it is admissible to have them refilled by competitors was seen by the Higher Regional Court as a disproportionate measure.

Although Soda-Club can still appeal against the Higher Regional Court’s decision to the Federal Supreme Court, the Higher Regional Court’s decision implies that the numerous small and medium-sized bottling plants can now start to compete with Soda-Club and refill all cartridges circulating in the market.

Are There Any Pros To Using Copper Cookware?

copper cookware

These days, you will find that most people who love to cook prefer to use copper cookware in their kitchens. As well, the most highly recommended kitchen cookware sets are almost always copper. So why is copper preferred over other materials, such as steel cookware? There are many reasons why copper has become the preferred cookware in kitchens across the nation, including those of leading chefs from around the world. The first and foremost is that copper is a great heat conductor and therefore when you use it for cooking you will be able to cook faster, no matter what type of cooking stove you use.

Besides the fact that copper pots and pans save a great deal of energy through proper heat conduction, it is also very long lasting. It is quite often that copper cooking utensils are used for generation after generation, all the while still looking as good as new. This is yet another advantage that you would get from using copper kitchen cookware because these utensils maintain their luster and show for as long as you want. All you would need is a little copper paste and elbow grease, and they will look stunningly shiny and beautiful. Scratches and any other sign of wear will be gone. It is no wonder why cooks from all over the world go to great lengths to get their kitchens outfitted with appropriate copper utensils.

When you use copper cookware you would be assured that the foods you cook are both healthier and tastier. This metal is not only an excellent heat conductor, but also a material that is able to maintain low or high temperatures for a long time in an even spread. This means that you can cook not only faster but also better when you are using copper kitchen cookware. This property is a great advantage when you need to cook food that requires proper temperature regulation, such as with egg based foods.

If you are among those who are completely addicted to quality cooking, then you cannot ignore the copper cookware for your kitchen. There is no other type of quality kitchenware that can compare with copper utensils. The fact that this material heats evenly and fast means that the foods cooked in it will not only taste better but will also cook in optimal time. When you want the best, there is no other choice than copper.

Include Slow Cookers In Your Cooking

In case you are aiming for good meals and good results from your slow cooker, you shouldn't go cheap with the spending. And in the same time it is not necessary that you have a super deluxe model. You'll need to do a little bit of research here as I'm not just gonna say that you buy a Philippe Richard or a Mirror cooker. It is good to know that you will not have to invest more then $40 for something like this.

If you decide on any of these brand names- brand names like Rival, Hamilton Beach, Kitchen-Aid, Cuisinart or Proctor Silex - you won't go wrong. Don't go cheap since you will get what you pay for -you will want your slow cooker to last for quite a few years.

Be careful not to choose a lousy pressure cooker that has no feature - it won't be a good deal. Since you don't want to rush home to take care of your meal and watch over it, a automatic shut-off and warm feature would be something you really need. The slow cooker will automatically switch to a gentle warming mode. The dishes will be ready to serve any time, and this is very helpfull when it comes to serving large meals.

After you picked the brand that yuo trust the most, you need to pick the size of the slow cooker. It's easy to see that the most popular sizes for pressure cooker are.5 and 4 quart models. Smaller and larger are available to suit your needs as well, depending on the size of your family.

Now as for what you should put into it, you can be as creative as you want. There is no 'perfect' recipe when it comes to slow cooking. The blended flavors of a few choice ingredients is what the slow cooker is good at. There is no end to the types of foods you can cook in a crockpot. Slow cooker will make it all good, whether you are making stew, a roast or a simple soup.

Now the slow cooked food is in, and the fast food is out. You can make a delicious meal by tossing some ingredients in the pot just before you leave the house.

Cast Iron Cookware Has Many Advantages

cast iron cookware

Most people absolutely rave about the cast iron cookware that they own. This can be for many reasons. This type of cookware is great heat conductor and heats thoroughly and evenly. It also is fairly inexpensive and if taken care of, can last a lifetime. Another reason is that it is a great way to cook foods in a fat free way, if they are seasoned correctly. While most individuals do not think that this type of cookware can be resistant to foods sticking, they can and can actually require that no additional oils be added.

Cast iron cookware is not only a product that has been used by pioneering women and those of southern decent, but by professional cooks and chefs. For many professionals, this is the cookware of choice, because of the ability to control the temperatures of the foods and their dependability. This cookware isn't used just for cooking on the stove, but for making foods that need to be baked as well. Items like cornbread and even biscuits can be baked evenly in cookware made of cast iron, along with many other dishes.

There are many different types of cookware that are made of cast iron. There are skillets and frying pans that come in many different sizes. Many individuals can remember their mothers and grandmothers frying chicken on Sunday's in these pans or many other meals. There are also the cast iron griddles. These griddles can be used to make pancakes, French toast or perhaps a grilled cheese sandwich. These griddles are so resilient that they can be used to cook foods over a campfire. Another cast iron cookware item is the Dutch oven. Long before the crock pot was ever thought of, the Dutch oven was making slow cooked meals for the whole family. The great thing about these Dutch ovens is, like other cookware that is made of cast iron, it can go from stovetop to oven and back again, if needed, without a problem.

If you have never taken the time to investigate cast iron cookware, then it is well worth your time. This cookware is so versatile and can be used for many, many years. Whether you are using a cast iron skillet, griddle or a Dutch oven, they are absolutely great for almost any foods that need to be prepared. Think of the early pioneers, this cookware was a necessity back in those days; all of their meals were prepared in this type of cookware. Today can be seen as something that many individuals would not want to cook without.

How to use Pressure Cookers

Pressure cookers were created to speed up the process of making food. They work, because at higher pressures, it takes a higher temperature to boil. This means that higher heats can be reached faster, because of the build up of pressure. Pressure cooking was fairly dangerous in the past, but now there are many safety features built in. This makes pressure cooking as safe as a microwave. Pressure cooking pots are one of the most useful cooking utensils to have in your home.

There are lots of things that can be cooked in a pressure cooker and there are many a cooking book devoted to pressure cooking. In days gone by, pressure cookers were more common and necessary kitchen tools than they are today. This is largely because of the availability of things such as take out and microwaves. In older days when it was always up to the mother to prepare all the meals, having the speed of a pressure cooker really cut down on her time in the kitchen. You can stil find plenty of great recipes designed specifically to be cooked in a pressure cooker. There are recipes for vegetables, rice, other meats, canning, deserts, fish, beans and many more. Most new pressure cooker models will come will a cheap recipes book, but to really explore the whole realm of pressure cooking, there are Internet sites devoted to them, or you could buy a recipe book from the store that is specifically designed for a pressure cooker.

The design of a pressure cooker is actually quite ingenious. They were supposedly created in 1679. These baking tools were called steam digesters, and were used for recipes for things such as canning. Pressure cookers are made of a thick metal, usually steel or aluminum, sometimes with a copper bottom to conduct heat. A small amount of water is placed inside the pot with the food to be cooked, and a sealed lid is placed on top. This lid becomes pressurized with the rising heat, forcing the boiling point to rise higher and higher. The lid will contain a valve that will eventually let out some steam so that the pressure of the cooker does not become so high that it explodes. This is much less likely to happen with modern cookers, because there are many safety valves added. With older versions, they would explode on a regular basis, because the valve would become clogged with food, blocking the steam from being able to come out.

So, now you have learned a little bit about pressure cookers and how they work. Although they are not used as much today, they are still a wonderful part of a full set of kitchen tools. If you have the room, consider adding a pressure cooker to your kitchenware. You might be surprised at how fast it can cook good foods.

Soda Water: How Much Do You Know?

Soda water, also referred to as sparkling water, and is plain water with carbon dioxide gas added -- it has been "carbonated.". In most "soft drinks" and "pop" It is the chief ingredient. The carbonation process forms carbonic acid, which is soda pop.

Soda water, or club soda, can be produced at home by using a seltzer bottle filled with water and then “charged” with carbon dioxide. Club soda may be the same as plain old carbonated water; but it can have a small amount of table salts and sodium trace minerals. These additives could possibly make the taste of home made soda water a bit salty. The process also occurs naturally in some areas and produce carbonate mineral water.

Sparkling mineral water can sometimes cause a little dental decay. The potential problem with sparkling water is greater than "still" water, but the problem is only slight. A much higher rate of tooth decay is caused by regular soft drinks than by sparkling water. The rate is so low that one wonders if carbonated drinks may be little or no factor in causing dental decay.

Water coming from the ground - usually from artesian wells - can be filtered among layers of minerals containing forms of carbonates and absorb the carbon dioxide gas released by those carbonates. This produces natural sparkling water. Shoud the water also pick up enough different minerals to add a flavor to the water it becomes sparkling mineral water.

Basically, soda water is just water and carbon dioxide. A naturally-occuring product of carbonation is sparkling mineral water. In 1794, a jeweler made a device to produce an artificial carbonated mineral water.

When several carbonated drinks were compared in a taste test, it was found that Perrier, a sparkling natural mineral water, kept its fizz the longest.

For consumers who believe seltzer to be a bit harsh, club soda provides a more gentle fizz. In one part of the taste test, club soda seemed to be milder and a little sweeter tasting than standard carbonated water.

Club soda, sparkling mineral water, seltzer and carbonate water have no calories, which make them a dieter’s choice over soda pop and tonic water.

Mixing water, sugar, carbon dioxide and quinine produces a carbonated drink called tonic water. Quinine's first use in tonic water was as an additive to help cure or prevent malaria. Today it is commonly mixed with gin and lemon or lime for a popular alcoholic drink.

This is just a few facts and names used for soda water.

How Knowing about Cooking Oil will Help You Make the Perfect Omelette

When I was a teenager, my friends would be amazed at my ability to produce the perfect omelette to order. And I always told them the secret was in the cooking oil.

Once back in their own homes, they would have a go at making one. They'd take their mother's most expensive cooking oil, pour it into the pan, break some eggs, whisk them and pour the mixture into the frying pan. What ensued might be an interestingly textured scrambled egg ensemble. But certainly not an omelette.

There are many lessons to be learned from this story. Don't make assumptions might be one. You might also consider waiting to hear the whole story before rushing off. But I think it's more about this: ask the right question, and you'll get the right answer.

Sure, cooking oil is important to making an omelette. There are two reasons. Firstly, you need to use cooking oil to make a decent omelette. The egg mixture will stick straight away if you try pouring it directly onto the frying pan. Secondly, you need to let the cooking oil get hot. Really hot. The cooking oil in the pan needs to be very hot, but it doesn't need to be smoking to avoid sticking your omelette to the frying pan. And that means you'll end up with a well-formed omelette, not a pan of scrambled egg.

However, the best question certainly wasn't 'What's the secret to cooking the perfect omelette?' Firstly, that assumes there's one secret. For another thing, it leaps to the conclusion that there is a secret. There's no secret to making an omelette, or in the cooking oil. The answer to that question is something like: 'the secret is in the cooking oil'. So my friends thought that using special/expensive/fancy/organic cooking oil would transform their omelettes. They focused on the object itself like good little consumers.

A much better question would have been, 'How do you ensure your omelette is perfect every time?' - which would have produced an outline of the procedure from cracking the eggs to levering the omelette onto the plate.

Another right question would have been, 'Can you show me how to make an omelette?' - and I would have been delighted to. After all, there was no secret.

Budget Meal Ideas for your Family

You might immediately hesitate to think that inventing or coming up with your own Low Price Cooking meal ideas is relatively easy, but in a way it actually can be.  Very often people have a hard time making meals inexpensively because they let themselves get overwhelmed, thinking that they need to watch every penny that every ingredient cost or that they're never allowed meat, and so on.  Or they're afraid to adjust the recipes they already have if they're just not familiar with the kitchen so they need explicit instructions when it comes to cheap meal ideas.  But really it just takes a small amount of creative thinking to Low Cost Cooking your meals and to make adjustments to recipes you already have to make those meals much more affordable.

When you think of where the majority of your grocery budget goes you'll probably agree that it's mostly on meat and some produce items.  So this is where your cheap meal ideas will start; substituting or eliminating those items or choosing ones that are less expensive.  For instance chicken breasts are usually about twice the price of chicken legs or thighs, so what recipes do you have where you can use thighs or legs instead?  Or can you hunt down some new recipes for those rather than relying on frying?  Your cheap meal ideas may require some effort on your part but none of these things are terribly difficult.  You can easily reduce the amount of meat you use in many recipes and learn to cook vegetables so that your family is still full despite cutting out the main staple.  And by making side dishes that are more substantial such as stuffed peppers or mushrooms, you're going to be full that much easier and may not even miss the meat in the first place, so your cheap meal ideas mean just adding more affordable options in these cases.

If you are a real meat eater, its hard to think about having veggie only meals but these can be a great option and a lot cheaper.  Think of what things you eat now that you could easily turn into a vegetarian dish - chili, spaghetti without meat, stew or soup, pot pies, stir fry, and so on.  Usually dishes like these are hearty enough that you don't even miss the meat.  Other Low Cost Cooking meal ideas simply involve having food that you might not think of such as oatmeal for dinner or cereal and toast for lunch.  You can also have a fruit salad over some cottage cheese or something light; these types of cheap meal ideas are even healthier than your standard lunch of cheeseburger and fries.

Making the same food you would get out to eat just in your own kitchen will save you a lot of money.  Prepared foods you get from the supermarket are always going to be more expensive, so cheap meal ideas will start with what you buy.  Be ready to do some of your own chopping, dicing, and cooking rather than relying on the supermarket to do these for you!

Cooking Cheap and Healthy Meals

Wanting to make Low Cost Cooking meals is common these days since food prices are going through the roof, and wanting to make healthy meals can also be a struggle.  But the real trick is when you can make cheap healthy meals at the same time!  A box of macaroni and cheese can be less than a dollar but there's very little nutritional value in that, and a salad is good nutrition but produce can sometimes be the most expensive on your grocery list.  So how do you combine the two so that you can create cheap healthy meals that you and your family will enjoy?

The first thing you need to learn when planning cheap healthy meals is just what is meant by healthy.  Some people think that rice is healthy when it's actually a simple carb that breaks down as sugar in the body.  It's healthier than sugar or saturated fat but still not as good as vegetables or lean protein.  And while lean protein is healthy you don't want to think that all meats are good for you as beef is loaded with saturated fat that clogs the arteries.  These things of course can be had in smaller amounts but creating cheap healthy meals means understanding what is healthy to you and knowing what you can eat in larger amounts and what you need to be balanced about.

Understanding your own budget and what will go over well with your family is also part of creating Low Cost Cooking healthy meals.  Some people, men in particular, just want to eat meat and hate vegetarian dishes.  It can be part of creating cheap healthy meals to substitute meats for certain vegetables but if your family won't eat these dishes then you're just wasting your time and your money as well.  A better idea might be to just cut back on the amount of meat you use and add more veggies to bulk up your meal.  For instance if you're making a pot roast you can purchase a smaller cut of meat and add carrots, mushrooms, onions, and potatoes to a slow cooker or roasting pan as you cook.  By doing this you're creating cheap healthy meals that are still very tasty but that involve more vegetables and less meat overall.  You can do the same with a wide variety of dishes - cut down on the meat you put into spaghetti sauces or chili and add more diced tomatoes and onions.

Get creative when thinking of Budget Cooking healthy meals.  Try a vegetable stir fry that you serve over noodles; add a small amount of meat for that carnivore in your life!Sometimes you can make a new version of a loaded baked potato that you can top off with steamed broccoli and small amounts of cheese.Sometimes people don't think a baked potato can be healthy but if you leave off the sour cream, butter, and bacon bits and add salsa, it can be very healthy. One thing that is important is that you put some thought into your healthy meals in order to make them cheap and then your family will love what they find.

Finding the right Choice for Cheap Healthy Food

Virtually everyone's grocery budget is being stretched to the limit these days, but most people don't want to eat food that is just affordable but they want Budget Cooking healthy food that is good for them while still fitting into their budget.  Anyone can pick up boxes of macaroni and cheese for a dollar each and have those for lunch or dinner, but there's very little nutritional content in items like this.  So what can you do if you're looking for cheap, healthy food that you can have on a regular basis?

The obvious answer is to eat more fruits and vegetables whenever you can.  These items are nutritious, tasty, and of course the best choice for Low Cost Cooking healthy food that there is.  But the problem with fruits and vegetables is that they can sometimes get a bit boring and repetitious, and many people want a hot meal for lunch or dinner rather than just raw fruits and veggies.  So how can you incorporate these items into your meal plans so that you're getting the best of cheap, healthy food but not missing out on taste or enjoyment?

Learning to cook is of course one important part, or just following recipes for certain items can make a difference.  Stuffed peppers are a great choice for cheap, healthy food that can be a main course for any meal.  Of course there's a right way and a wrong way to cook stuffed pepper so that they come out tasty rather than mushy!  But they're one easy dish that just about everyone enjoys.Veggies can really be dressed up by using them in the stir fry and then you can put a wide variety of different sauces in them to make it better.  They make a great meal and a good idea for a cheap, healthy food that you can have on its own or that you can serve over noodles or rice.Sometimes its the side dishes that can really help fill people up and its always good to have lots of stemed veggies that can help fill people up.  This means you're having a cheap, healthy food at every meal but not losing out on the taste of meat, if that's what you enjoy.

Fruit makes a great dessert in many cases; this is another way of having a Budget Cooking healthy food that tastes good and that can be used in the place of something else that is less healthy or good for you.  Some fresh fruit with a little bit of whipped cream is a small amount of calories, especially when compared to ice cream or something else.  You might need to get a little creative with fruit as a dessert; for instance, try baking an apple with some cinnamon. One thing that a lot of people don't know is that baking it will bring out a lot of the sugars that are natural.  This is a cheap, healthy food that just about everyone loves for dessert and that is so easy to make.  By using your imagination and getting familiar with different cooking techniques, you can use fruits and vegetables as cheap, healthy food every single day.

How the Humble Cooking Apron Came of Age

Back in the 1960s, no self-respecting parent would dream of trying to do anything in the kitchen without first putting on a cooking apron. Clothes were too expensive to buy - and keep clean - to risk staining them with the residue of culinary exploits. But by the end of that decade things had changed. The cooking apron had begun to symbolise the downtrodden housewife. And then, being tied to your apron strings became something to escape.

Now we're in a new century. Everyone is watching cooking shows on TV before heading into their refitted kitchens to try out their new-found cooking skills. And TV chefs wear cooking aprons. So, now the humble cooking apron, denizon of the liberated woman, is back in style - big time. If we want to feel like a "master chef", all we have to do is put an apron on. What we cook when we wear our cooking aprons is another matter entirely, of course (it all looks so much easier on TV, doesn't it).

Today's cooking aprons are now available in a masive variety of colours and styles. And the most popular seem to bear some kind of joke printed on the front (just think which area of the body they cover). Novelty cooking aprons are all the rage. You can even give wings to your creativity and have a humorous quip of your own invention printed on the front of your cooking apron.

But the biggest difference between cooking aprons in the 1960s and now is the way we buy them. Online. It's never been easier to browse for, find or buy a kitchen apron. Everything can be done without moving away from the counter in our kitchen. In fact, it can be so easy, so comfortable and so cheap that we buy more than one. At the end of the day, it's always good to be ready if guests arrive unannounced. They must also agree to wear your newest cooking apron in the kitche, and get their hands, if not their clothes, dirty.

Why Your Life Would be Easier with a Croc Pot

As the evenings draw in, it's time to store the barbeque and get out the croc pot. Invented by the Crock-Pot company, the croc pot, or slow cooker, is a low-energy way of cooking food over a period of several hours. Because the temperature never reaches anywhere near boiling point, food becomes tender without losing any of its natural flavour or nutritional value. This is a kitchenware item that is excellent for preparing rich stews. The length of cooking time is ideal for complex dishes that rely on binding diverse flavours. And modern croc pots are ultra-economical.

The concept has caught on. Well-known brand names such as Morphy Richards and Breville make super-efficient slow cookers that are affordable and easy to use. They have become popular because they are so easy to use. Preparing a nutritious dinner is a real challenge - even more so for tired parents arriving home from work with hungry children to feed. For many, that's the most chaotic time of the day - and the worst possible moment to start preparing dinner.

A croc pot allows you to choose the best moment to prepare your meal. You can chop your vegetables and prepare your meat in the morning, place it all in the slow cooker and turn it on before you leave the house. The first croc pots cooked at a pre-defined, low temperature that was controlled by a thermostat. Contemporary cookware now offer a host of features that essentially allow you to expand your culinary repetoire beyond the limit of simple stews. Some feature more complicated temperature control so that food can be kept warm once its cooked automatically. There are slow cookers on the market that automatically switch off when they detect that the joint of meat is cooked. You can achieve crispy toppings by programming more advanced slow cookers to rise to high temperatures for the last 15 minutes of their cooking cycle. However, if energy savings are your biggest concern, you probably won't want to go for a slow cooker which can cook at high temperatures. A modern, simple croc pot is still the most efficient way to cook your food.

There are two main sizes of slow cookers and croc pots. These are the '4-quart' and the '6-quart', which hold exactly what they say on the tin. The 6-quart option would be perfect for a big family with healthy appetites and a large kitchen. But one factor that has made croc pots so popular over the years is the prevalence of 'pot-luck' dinners. In this case, a 4-quart, handled croc pot would be ideal. Just pick up the pot, carry it to the party and once you get there, plug it in. Some croc pots even have a crockery bowl that you can remove from the rest of the cooker. This makes serving directly from the bowl very easy - and a little more elegant. And because the crockery pot is quite heavy, it is sufficient to maintain the food at temperature without power.

Now that there have been so many croc pots and slow cookers on the market for such a long time, there are also plenty of recipes to go with them. Once you have familiarized yourself with the basics, your imagination is the only limit.

Helping your Grocery Bill with Cheap Foods

Gourmet foods can be a real treat for everyone; a nice juicy steak is something you might look forward to all week or all month, or whatever your favorite dish is.Saving the gourmet foods for a special treat and using cheaper foods during the week and month will be hard at first but you will like your grocery bill.  This doesn't mean that you always need to buy low quality cuts of meat or brands and varieties that you don't like, but just making some substitutes of Budget Cooking foods rather than the most expensive in a few dishes here and there can help tremendously.

As an example, chicken is usually much less expensive than beef.  Do you have beef dishes where chicken can work instead?  Using Budget Cooking foods in pot pies, soups, stews, and even chili can shave several dollars off your grocery bill every week, so when you make these items consider using chicken or even pork rather than beef.  You can also cut down on the number of times you serve any type of beef dish throughout the week and serve a chicken dish instead - use a rotisserie, or put a chicken in the slow cooker with some vegetables, and so on.  By using cheap foods like chicken or pork instead of beef you can save several dollars per week.  Explore the seasoning mixes and spice blends available at the supermarket that can really make a chicken very tasty, and of course there are many types of chicken casseroles that you can make as well.

Vegetables can also be considered Low Cost Cooking foods and can be used in several dishes either as a substitute for meat or to bulk up dishes so that you can use less meat.  When you make chili, cut the amount of beef you use in half and add more onions, beans, and tomatoes.  These are cheap foods that still fill you up so you won't miss the meat so much.  Making a hearty vegetable stew is a good idea and makes a good lunch throughout the week, especially if you accompany it with some cornbread or biscuits.  Vegetable stews, soups, and vegetarian casseroles are very cheap foods that can even be made with leftovers or frozen vegetables that can be purchased very cheaply.  Usually just a few added ingredients are all that's necessary to turn leftovers into tasty second dishes!

Using these types of cheap foods as much as possible can save you a tremendous amount of money in the long run.  There are many seasoning mixes and blends you can get from the store so you don't need to guess how to make these dishes tasty.  Kitchen appliances can also help, such as a rotisserie, slow cooker, tabletop grill, and so on.  You might need to put forth some extra effort when incorporating cheap foods into your weekly routine but the savings you'll get will make it worthwhile.

The Bakeware Necessities You Need To Bake

foods

Cooking and baking are two different events in the life of a kitchen and a cook. Cooking refers more to dinner and baking deals with cookies, bread, cake, different desserts and the like. For those who enjoy baked goods, here is a list of bakeware necessities you'll need to complete any masterpiece in the kitchen. These items can be pricey or on the thrifty end depending on what you need and where to you to get it. So, have a decent sized budget when shopping for the necessities you don't already have. Quality makes a difference!

First and foremost are measuring devices. This includes bakeware items such as measuring cups, spoons, liquid measurement and a sifter for powdered ingredients needing to be measured out for your recipes. For any recipe that requires a hot item out of the oven, a wire cooling rack is essential. It keeps countertops cool and provides a dedicated place for hot foods to cool down. A spice rack is a helpful and handy tool when you need to grab that last ingredient to finish up. Fresh spices are great, but just be sure to have special graters on hand to extract the amount you'll need.

Some bakeware items are similar or the same as those needed for cooking. For example, in order to melt butter or marshmallows you will be using a pot. But for other baking items you'll mostly be looking into buying pans. There is a huge variety of pans for cakes and breads. Specialty baked goods such as Angel Food cake requires the use of a special pan. Other pans you'll need include those for cupcakes and cookies. Loaf pans can be used for a wide variety of baked goods as well. Before going shopping it's a good idea to have a list of what you already have and what kind of recipe you'd like to tackle in the next few months. This can help a good customer service person to help you find what you need.

Online Fishmongers

Did you know that you can now buy fresh fish online? Yes it is true - these days you can pretty much buy almost anything on the internet. The massive increase internet usage around the world in recent years, coupled with exposure from search engines such as Google, it is now possible to buy virtually any product or service over the internet. This could seem like a new concept to you, given the relatively short shelf life of fresh fish.  But some savvy fishmongers have realised that there is a market for those looking to buy smoked salmon or buy haddocks fillets on the internet.

It is now possible for online fishmongers to deliver frozen fish to your door, keeping it fresh for your enjoyment.the fish retains its freshness and flavours throughout the delivery process, as it is quick frozen shortly after being caught and delivered in specially sealed vacuume packed bags.  The fish is dispatched in a Van with a dry ice compartment, meaning that the produce is kept at a very low temperature and will not lose its freshness.

You may think it strange that consumers would want to buy fish online.  But if you consider that we are all working longer hours, with increasingly stressful lifestyles, it makes sense for us to be able to buy fish online rather than rush to the fishmongers during work hours.Should you buy fish online you may even find that is fresher becuase it has not sat on display all day long.

The other issue to consider is choice, many of the newly formed online fishmongers offer a huge selection of fish that may not be available is a fishmongers in a provincial town.  Aside from that not every town or village has a fishmongers; more often than not consumers are purchasing fresh fish from a supermarket. You may find that your local supermarket has only a small selection of fish available.

Just doing a quick search on Google for "Fresh Fish" displays dozens of advertisements from specialist online fishmongers so there is plenty of choice and competition about!

Looking For The Correct Drinking Water Filtration System

The procedure for finding the right drinking water filtration system isn't that difficult, you just need to learn a bit about the different home drinking water filter types that are on the market today, and from there make the right choice of which particular drinking water filter type is going to work best for your family.

Let’s take a look at some of the most popular types of home drinking water filtration systems out there today.

Ionized Water Filtration System

By far one of the most popular types of drinking water filter systems on the market today is the ionized water filtration system. Today alkaline and acid water are being used in a huge number of hospitals and clinics, both for consumption and wound healing instead of expensive drug treatments.

There are several advantages that come from ionized water filters, like the fact that they are healthier than most other types of water filters. They also cost less, which is good because then you don’t have to brake you budget to get clean, fresh drinking water.

Charcoal Water Filtration Systems

The charcoal water filters are also very popular. These water filtration systems utilize charcoal coming from coconut husk to use as a filter medium. This works by absorbing impurities as the water passes through, and this form of filter comprises possibly 95% of those in use domestically, due to the fact that they are so easy to hook up and last for a very long time.

If you are looking for an effective drinking water filter system this is one that you are going to want to think about, one that will be worth every cent spent.

Looking at Reverse Osmosis Filtration Systems

The last kind of drinking water filtration system to be looked at here is the reverse osmosis filter. This is a water filtration system that uses a semi permeable membrane to filter through osmotic process. They take everything out of the water, leaving it uncontaminated. These water filters are most commonly installed under the sink, and are very affordable.

You really want to take some time and put some thought into this, so that you can pick the correct water filter system for your home. Depending on the size of your family and your finances for instance, factors such as these will play a key role in determining which water filter system you pick. Either way, getting a water filtration system will make sure that you and your family are getting only the cleanest, purest water.

Is Healthy Eating For Kids Really Possible?

If you've got kids, they're likely the most important people in your life. Which is perfectly natural. Feeding your kids healthy food that they'll actually want to eat is important. But not always as easy as it should be.

Almost every kid in the country is a fussy eater. Kinds of all ages seem to prefer sweet foods to things like healthy vegetables.

So, what do you need to do to get your kids to enjoy eating food that's healthy for them? All the time making sure that you've got enough hours in the day to be able to perform your parental duties.

You need to keep changing the food you offer your kids. Otherwise there's a good chance they'll maybe get bored. Or, even worse, that they'll only eat two or three trusted recipes.

It isn't your fault that you've got so many things to do each and every day!

The internet has made the search for new healthy eating recipes easier. You may even be able to find recipes that have been tested on real kids with real reviews of how they reacted.

Sometimes your kids will flat out refuse to eat their greens. If that's the case, hunt down a batch of recipes that will help get these ingredients past even the fussiest eater. It's easy to throw vegetables into your blender to cut them up real small. That way, even a fussy kid won't be able to pick out the bits they don't like. Another way is to use different textures and mixes of food. If your kids don't like the idea of steamed broccoli, consider using a sauce to make it taste different. The sauce can still be healthy - it's only restaurants that have to make almost every sauce using cream.

Another option is to call the food by some "revolting" name like "Hulk Juice". Kids like weird and wonderful things and may well eat something if it has a name that an adult would turn their nose up at. It's definitely worth giving it a go!

Why Cooking Food Outdoors is Great

Food that you prepare outside in the open seems to have more taste. And if you're camping, appetites are bigger and everything feels so much fresher. Chances are that you're cooking food that you've carried with you - but you've probably also added any herbs or berries that you found by the wayside on your travels.

Cooking food isn't the easiest or most appealing part of camping. We've all experienced trying to light the stove in the rain, running out of water just when you need to thin the soup or discovering that you're missing a vital ingredient - like salt.

As a teenager, I went hiking with a friend in the Lake District. We carried everything we needed on our backs, so we tried to carry only lightweight food, which meant lots of packets of dried soup. By day three, not only were we sick of soup, we were experiencing some weird side effects from all the e-numbers in the mixtures. It wasn't long before my ears felt as though they were burning - and my hiking partner told me they had started to glow red. But we didn't have any other food to cook.

The key to cooking food on a camping holiday is planning.

Carry a good lighter, a good stove such as a Trankia and some lightweight cooking pots and pans, and cooking food in the great outdoors doesn't look so daunting. Remembering to bring the right cooking equipment and utensils is one thing. But you'll be cooking food. And carrying all that food can be the problem.

While I still carry packets of dried food - because they are so light to carry and take up such little space - I steer clear of anything that contains a lot of e-numbers. There's plenty of room left for fresh food. Cooking food in the great outdoors is most fun if you use fresh food. And the best fresh food is the berries that you pick while you walk, or the fish that you catch in the river or lake that you pass.

Yes, it sounds a bit too good to be true. But the kind of routes I plan are guaranteed to take me past a supermarket or two. There, the berries are easier to find and the fish easier to catch. The idea is solid, and it promises to make the best part of your holiday the food you cook.

Depending on the occasion, there are suitable nut gift baskets to choose from.  When you select a basket, there are several factors that you’ll need to consider in order to make the basket a truly special gift.  If you are giving a basket as a wedding present, then you’ll obviously want to choose a different basket than one you would give to a friend at a party.  There are wine baskets out there that are cheap in price - to those that are more expensive and more suitable for a wedding gift.

It's Sometimes Hard to Swallow Healthy Eating Advice

The healthy eating advice we hear all the time is 'eat a balanced diet'. There really isn't anything more to it than that. Or is it?

I've been thinking about my diet a lot recently. I'm training for a marathon. You'll soon find there a huge number of people offering different versions of healthy eating advice, once you start looking for it. And most of it is aimed at people who consider themselves to be overweight. Here's the essence of what most nutritional experts say:

  • Eat six pieces of fresh fruit every day - and eat most of it in the first half of the day
  • Eat as much raw food as possible - salads, cereals, vegetables and fruit (not raw meat!)
  • Avoid processed food
  • Avoid eating sugar and foods with a high sugar content
  • Don't eat too much fat, especially fat that is solid at room temperature like butter or fatty red meat
  • Eat oily, cold-water fish two or three times a week
  • Only eat until you are about 80% full
  • Drink plenty of water

All this sounds like sensible healthy eating advice. But it is quite hard to follow to the letter. Try eating an apple when you've already eaten a kiwi fruit, an orange, a banana, some berries and a peach. Try telling your dentist! Most fruit is quite acidic, and it contains a lot of natural sugars. Your teeth and stomach can take quite a battering.

It's also hard to avoid eating processed food. It's everywhere you look. It's convenient. And it tastes good - it's been designed to. There's so little nutritional value in a lot of processed food that tasting good is its only virtue. And of course some of it tastes so good that we can't resist it - in huge quantities.

Back to the marathon. The main issue with a marathon runner's diet is to make sure you have enough sugar in your blood so you don't 'hit the wall'. You can expect to hit the wall after 20 miles or so. Their muscles have burnt all their blood sugar. The body responds by breaking down stores of fat and glycogen in the liver. It causes a lot of pain.

But many experienced marathon runners say, 'It's all in the mind. The 'wall' is often nothing more than a mental obstacle. If you want to finish the marathon, you have to go through it - you have to take the pain. And that's how I have come to view the balanced diet and all the other articles of healthy eating advice. If you want to lose weight and be healthy, you have to have the right mindset. Don't give in to your 'need' for processed food. Hitting the Wallmart is a mental barrier. Youcan overcome.

So here's the ultimate healthy eating advice: you have to want to be healthy. You have to want to be slim. And not just a bit. Badly. Because healthy eating is a state of mind.
